quarterly: design*sponge

a few months back, design*sponge announced they would be doing a subscription box with quaterly. i've tried the occasional box here and there, but i always felt like they were just schlepped together with whatever freebies the supplier could solicit that month. so, i was quite intrigued by the design*sponge announcement because everything they do seems to be so thoughtful and deliberate.

i was pleasantly surprised to learn that quarterly offers boxes four times a year (hence the name) that are curated by some of the coolest people around, and they handpick each item that goes into your box. i actually really like the seasonal model because by offering fewer boxes per year, quarterly and their curators can locate and allocate more of your funds toward quality items. the boxes start at $50 (d*s is $100), and i was really pleased with my return on investment. this first box was based on pattern and was inspired by a childhood stay at the greenbrier hotel (side note: i love that grace is a virginia girl). it included:

it's cute and striped! i completely forgot to take it out of the box for the picture...oops

tapers always feel fancy and grown up, but i think these bold stripes are so fun

a pretty box of matches i won't mind leaving out on the mantle with the candles

this tea looks scrumptious, and the tin is cute enough to repurpose after it's gone

i love the sweet floral twist on the classic composition book pattern here

i don't have any felt coasters, so it's cool to switch things up and have a new texture on the coffee table

i have been lusting over a heirloom for ages now, so this was christmas came early. i still can't believe they put one of these in a subscription box!

grace compared quarterly to getting a care package from your mom at camp, and i think she hit the nail on the head. the box came with a little letter from her explaining why she chose each item, which added an extra special touch. i also like that she chose items that feel cohesive. you could use the candles and soap in a bath, or sip some tea while you write in your journal in the morning. the next box is out in march, and i can't wait. you can learn more about quarterly from their interview on grace's radio show, after the jump, here.

p.s.

just by subscribing, i was entered into a contest to win this rifle paper co. recipe box...and i won! :) quarterly even threw in another cute little notebook with a handwritten note. and if that's not enough, they also reached out to me on social media. their customer service has just blown me away, and it's been a great experience getting to know their brand.
