bo daddys

one of justin's co-workers raves about the barbeque at bo daddy's, and it turns out that it's right across the street from my office, tucked behind a set of stairs on the corner of east broad street and calvin street.

so the other day, i decided to swing by and grab some barbeque to take home for lunch. i got the pulled pork sandwich with a side of hush puppies, and they did not disappoint! the pork was nice and smokey, and pretty good left on its own, but i went for the mustard sauce (side note: you can't get that in virginia, and i have become obsessed with it since moving to south carolina.) this mustard sauce wasn't your typical topping, either. it was thicker than a vinaigrette with a nice little bite to it. also, did i mention that the hush puppies had jalapeƱo in them? SO good. they added some heat without being too spicy, and the recipe has some onion in it, which gives it a nice, subtle kick. they were fried to perfection, too, with a crunchy outer layer and a moist inside.

right now, bo daddy's is only open for lunch tuesday through friday from 11 am until 2 pm. kind of strange hours, but if you're looking for lunch downtown, you should definitely make plans to check it out!
