Last Minute Costume: Wednesday Addams

 don't be a sissy

So everyone at your office decided to dress up for Halloween, and you need to throw together a work-appropriate costume at the last minute. Don't be a sissy and give up. Go to your closet, pull out your LBD and be Wednesday Addams!

The original goth queen and inventor of resting bitch face, Wednesday was always a badass whether she was playing with her doll (Marie Antoinette), raising spiders or obsessing over the Bermuda Triangle. Christina Ricci immortalized her, and all you really need to pull off that iconic look is a black dress and a white shirt paired with some braids, a middle part and the meanest look you can muster. If that's not in your closet already, here's where you can get it on the cheap:

1. Old Navy $25 / 2. Forever 21 $20 / 3. Target $14

Double Take: French Connection Fox Sweater

seek and ye shall find

image via Asos

So there's a funny story behind this sweater. My friend Kate came in to work one day wearing it, and I literally did a double take before immediately pouncing on her. I had only seen fox sweaters in the triple digits, like the French Connection one pictured above, and was dying to know where she got hers. Needless to say, I was pretty excited when she told me that she had found it at J. C. Penny and on sale for only $20, no less! I actually went out and bought it on my lunch break. Thanks again Kate! :)

If you follow the link above, it says it's sold out online, but I would call or go check your local store if you're dying to get it. And if they really are sold out, check out five more foxy sweaters below:

Left to Right
Row 1: Asos $67, Old Navy via Ebay $33, Tilly's $27
Row 2: Von Maur $36, Forever 21 $20

Looks I Love: Medium Length Hair

snip snip

Anyone whose known me for the better part of the past decade knows that I've had long hair for a long, long time. I've even been known to shed a few tears after an inch too many was trimmed off. But a few weeks ago, I got the urge to cut my hair. After waiting a while to make sure that's what I actually wanted, I took the plunge, and now I couldn't be happier. (If you live in Greenville, go to Heather at Urban Nirvana downtown on McBee. She's great!) Sometimes change can be for the better, and I'm happy to report that I now have two hairstyles that really work for me. If you're looking for a little encouragement to get your hair cut, here's a few lovely ladies whose gorgeous medium-length locks inspired me:

apple picking

let's be twins

Welome to the newest section on the blog: What I Wore! I am a long-time lurker of several blogs (A Cup of Jo, Atlantic-Pacific, A Beautiful Mess, etc.), and while I love getting style tips from these lovely ladies, sometimes they are just a little out of my price range. Let's face it, as a twenty-something, I only have so much disposable income to spend on clothes, but luckily I enjoy the thrill of the hunt for a good bargain. This is a section I've wanted to start for a while because I know so many great girls who make their look work on their budget, and I thought this would be a great way to share all of our finds with one another. Let me know what you think!

Weekend Edition: Zirconia, NC

the sky's the limit

photo via Sarah Klein

This past weekend, I went apple picking with a few friends at Sky Top Orchard in Zirconia, NC. It's only about 45 minutes from Greenville, and the drive is absolutely beautiful with plenty of mountain views. The orchard was great with lots of good eats (pumpkin donuts and whoopie pies + apples, apple butter, apple donuts, apple cider and more), cute farm animals and even a bamboo forest to explore. Best of all, it was dog friendly; so there was plenty of cute puppy-watching to do if you weren't into picking. We had so much fun, and it gave me the opportunity to try out some of the new seasonal Afterlight filters on my photos. So far, Elm is my favorite :)

If anyone has a good apple pie recipe, I'd love to try it out!

looks i love: chrome nails

because gray is so passé

So my current color crush is No Place Like Chrome, from essie. It's chic yet simple, with all the versatility of gray but the luxe shine that comes from metallics. I love it! It looks great paired with blue jeans and an army jacket, making it perfect for fall. Snag a bottle for only $8 at Target!
